Chevron Launches New Caltex Diesel with Techron D

Auckland, New Zealand, 8 March 2010 – Chevron New Zealand, which markets Caltex fuels, today announced the introduction of Caltex Diesel with Techron D, an improved diesel fuel containing the company’s specially-formulated Techron D additive.

Chevron is the first fuel company in New Zealand to market an engine-cleaning diesel product that offers users true fuel quality differentiation. Caltex Diesel with Techron D, which will be included in all Caltex diesel sold at pumps, will control deposits, maintain fuel injector cleanliness and support engine performance in commercial vehicles, trucks and high-specification modern leisure diesel vehicles.

Overseas tests have shown Caltex Diesel with Techron D has helped reduce diesel engine deposits, improved fuel injector cleanliness and flow, and reduced corrosion. During development, Chevron tested the performance of the Techron D additive in both old and new diesel engines, as well as in a range of diesel specifications including biodiesel blends, and it has performed well with all. This ensures that the new Caltex Diesel with Techron D is suitable for all diesel vehicles and meets New Zealand diesel quality standards as well as Chevron’s strict quality standards for all Caltex fuels.

The new formulation has the added benefit of being noticeably less foamy, which makes filling up faster and cleaner.

Chevron New Zealand’s General Manager of Marketing, Nick Hannan, said the new product benefits had been sought by the company’s extensive commercial and industrial customer base.

“New Zealand businesses are operating in a challenging economic environment now and are looking for products that will help them improve the efficiency of their operations, leading to improved performance and cost savings,” he said.

Mr Hannan said Caltex Diesel with Techron D’s properties would help expensive diesel engines by reducing wear and tear in fuel injectors and corrosion in the fuel system.

“Caltex Diesel with Techron D will result in cleaner engines and cleaner engines perform more efficiently, saving money and reducing harmful emissions,” he said.

Faster filling due to a less foamy formulation was a benefit valued by commercial drivers, who were keen to spend as little time as possible refuelling.

The launch is the biggest for Caltex in New Zealand since the successful launch of Techron in its petrol in 2006.

Caltex Diesel with Techron D will be available at Caltex service stations and diesel stops throughout New Zealand from March 2010.  The improved formulation will not increase the retail price of Caltex Diesel.
